PANG PRAISES KYC FOR SUCCESSFULLY HOSTING ANNUAL GAMES

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin praised the Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) for successfully staging the three-day Inter Yacht Club Games, which ended on Sunday.

 

Pang, who also the Youth and Sports Minister who congratulated KYC for retaining the title this year, however cautioned members of the losing clubs, Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) and Tawau Yacht Club (TYC) to accept the result in the true sporting spirit.

 

He said winning or losing is part and parcel of every tournament and these Games are held annually purely to enhance fellowship among members of the three clubs.

 

These Games have a long history and this in itself shows the spirit of sportmanship and fellowship amongst members of the yacht clubs in Sabah.

 

He was speaking at the closing and prize presentation night at the KYC in Tanjung Aru, where host KYC emerged champions garnering a total of 22 points, merely one point ahead of the latter.

 

TYC came in third with 17 points from several sporting disciplines competed namely, darts, snooker, tennis, badminton, squash, carrom, balut, beach volleyball, beach football, karaoke competition, dance competition, tug-of-war and sailing (novice).

 

He was also pleased to note that yacht club committees always cater to member's and their families' needs and diverse interests, thus promoting further interaction among the young and old.

 

Throughout the three-day event, he was also happy to see the strong family ties among the members, which he said should be maintained in enhancing the objectives of the clubs and the Annual Games.

 

Earlier, the Chairlady Amy Teo wished to thank all the members and their families of the three clubs in making the event a real success.

 

This year saw a high level of participation from the clubs with 350 participants (members, families and their children) in all coming from various age groups.

 

Competition in all the disciplines were very competitive with SYC and TYC giving KYC a run for their money in most of the games, and Amy thanked Sutera Harbour Resort and Kinabalu Golf Club (KCG) in allowing them to use their facilities.

 

She also thanked her hardworking committee, the KYC management committee headed by Commodore Louis tseu and KYC staff in rendering their fullest cooperation throughout the event.
