REGATTA SEES 128 SAILORS IN THE FRAY

 

Kota Kinabalu: 128 participants from Sabah, Perak, Terengganu, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak as well as the National Team, Navy Lumut, Navy Country, Singapore and Indonesia are participating in the Sutera Harbour Regatta Challenge Trophy in conjunction with the 16th Merdeka Day Regatta 2009 and Malaysian National Ranking.

 

The Regatta also sees the participation of 14 Sukma sailors, eyeing Sukma selection in Melaka next year.

 

The Merdeka Day Regatta started yesterday and will end today with a prize presentation ceremony at Kinabalu Yacht Club.  The prize presentation for the Sutera Harbour Regatta Challenge Trophy and Marathon Race sponsored by Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club was held yesterday, at Marina Cafe, SHMGCC.

 

The Regatta is divided into the following classes:- Int. 470 Open; Int. 420 Open; Laser Standard Open; Laser Radial (Boys & Girls); Laser 4.7 Open; Optimist Div. A (Born '94-96'), Div. B (Born '97-Dec '98), Div. C (Born '99 and later); Optimist Novice (only for Sabahans); Sailboards.

 

The respective class rules apply, together with the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, the Sailing Instructions, Notice of Race, rules changes on the Official Notice Board.  The prescriptions of the Malaysian Yachting Association will apply while Sabahan sailors are bound by the prescription of Sabah Sailing Association.

 

The Regatta is jointly organised by Kinabalu Yacht Club and Sabah Sailing Association and sponsored by Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club to select young, inspiring and talented sailors to represent Sabah in future Sailing Regattas at both national and international levels.
